STANFORD, Calif. - A pair of Stanford rowing alumni, Alex Osborne '09 and Elle Logan '11, will represent the United States at the 2011 World Rowing Championships this weekend.

Osborne and Logan will race for the men's and women's eights, respectively. The men's eight competition begins Sunday, August 28 and the A Final is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 1. The women's eight A Final will be a day later, Friday, Sept. 2.

"Alex continues the Stanford Men's Rowing tradition of placing Cardinal rowers in USA National and Olympic shells," said Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "The USA Eight is moving well and we are excited about the potential of medals for the USA. Alex came to Stanford with no prior rowing experience and led our varsity to unprecedented national results over his career."

"Stanford alumni David Banks '05, Jake Cornelius '05, and Silas Stafford '08 continue to train for next summers London Olympics," Amerkhanian continued. "The selection process is ongoing and we are proud of all of our dedicated USA national and Olympic team candidates."

Osborne will make his second career appearance at the World Rowing Championships, having previously rowed with the U.S. Eight at the 2009 event in Poland. There, Osborne and the U.S. Eight finished third in the "B" final for an overall ninth-place finish.

Prior to that, Osborne had competed twice for the U.S. Eight at the under 23 championships, finishing fourth in 2007 and capturing gold in 2008.

While at Stanford, Osborne was part of the I Eight that defeated California at The Big Row in 2008 and went on to finish fifth nationally at the IRA Championships later that year. In his final season on The Farm in 2009, Osborne helped lead the I Eight to the national medal stand as the Cardinal captured the bronze medal at the IRA Championships.

Logan has become a mainstay of the U.S. Eight since helping the crew win the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. This year's world championships will mark the second straight year in which she will be part of the eight at the event, having captured gold last year in New Zealand.

She also earned a silver medal with the U.S. Four at the 2009 championships in Poland.

In her time at Stanford, Logan was a member of the I Eight that captured the individual Pac-10 and NCAA titles in 2009 and finished third in 2011. The boat's effort in 2009 clinched Stanford's first-ever women's rowing team NCAA title. She was named to the CRCA All-America Team four times (2007, 2009-11) in her collegiate career.
