STANFORD, Calif. - Cardinal rowing fans had a chance to check up on some future oarsmen this past weekend as incoming Stanford rowers Benton and John Chuter competed in the junior men's four at the World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The Chuter brothers were part of the U.S. crew that finished 12th against some of the world's top junior rowers in Bulgaria. After a sixth-place finish in the preliminary heats, the brothers helped the U.S. boat to a second-place effort in the next day's repechage to qualify for the semifinal round.

Despite missing out on a championship final berth, the boat raced in the B Final, taking sixth for an overall 12th-place finish at the event.

This fall, the twin brothers will be attending Stanford and rowing for head coach Craig Amerkhanian and the Cardinal men's rowing program. Benton and John come from a rowing family which includes their mother, Anne, as well as older sister Charlotte who rowed for the U.S. four at the 2006 Juniors Worlds.

The Stanford men were represented by three rowers at the 2012 World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships, as junior Will Robins joined the Chuters at the event. Robins rowed with the U.S. senior lightweight eight, finishing eighth.

John Chuter also competed at the World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships last week

John had initially been set to race in the junior pairs class, but with his original partner unable to compete he was moved into the junior coxless four, joining Benton.

Together, this trio will return to The Farm this fall, aiming to help lead the Cardinal to success at the IRA National Championship next June.
