USRowing Names Six Crews To 2011 U.S. National Team

STANFORD, Calif. - Former Stanford oarsman Alex Osborne `09 was among those selected by USRowing Tuesday to the U.S. National Team that will represent the country at the 2011 World Rowing Championships Aug. 28-Sept. 4 in Bled, Slovenia.

USRowing named the crews to six camp-selected boats (four men's boats, two women's) Tuesday, with Osborne being selected as part of the U.S. Men's Eight.

Osborne will make his second career appearance at the World Rowing Championships, having previously rowed with the U.S. Eight at the 2009 event in Poland. There, Osborne and the U.S. Eight finished third in the "B" final for an overall ninth-place finish.

Prior to that, Osborne had competed twice for the U.S. Eight at the under 23 championships, finishing fourth in 2007 and capturing gold in 2008.

While at Stanford, Osborne was part of the I Eight that defeated California at The Big Row in 2008 and went on to finish fifth nationally at the IRA Championships later that year. In his final season on The Farm in 2009, Osborne helped lead the I Eight to the national medal stand as the Cardinal captured the bronze medal at the IRA Championships.

USRowing will announce the rest of the senior national team following the 2011 World Rowing Championships trials held Aug. 1-4.
