STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman Austin Hack '14 will represent Stanford men's rowing at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships as part of the U.S. Eight, USRowing announced Thursday.
"The impact of Stanford rowers representing the USA continues with great efforts from Austin Hack, and graduates Alex Osborne, Silas Stafford and David Banks," said Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian, also referencing a trio of Stanford rowing alumni which competed at the 2011 Samsung World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland. "The culture of excellence and hard work that is Stanford men's rowing continues at the highest levels with the 2012 London Olympics in the mens' sights."
The 2011 World Rowing Under 23 Championships are set to take place from July 21-24 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Hack, a native of Old Lyme, Conn., rowed with the Stanford I Eight in 2011, helping the crew to a bronze medal at the Pac-10 Championships and to an eight-place national finish at the IRA Championships.
Hack will row with the U.S. Men's Eight. He joins a list of previous Stanford rowers that have competed at the Under 23s which includes Jamie Schroeder (2003), Kevin Baum (2007), Silas Stafford (2007-08), Nate Rooks (2007-08), Alex Osborne (2007-08), Mark Murphy (2007, 2009), Sebastian Peterlin (2009), Dane McFadden (2010) and Alex Syverson (2010).
