World Rowing Under 23 Championships Home

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford oarsmen Dane McFadden and Alex Syverson were named to the U.S. Under 23 Rowing Team that will compete at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships from July 22-25 in Brest, Belarus. McFadden and Syverson will row as part of the U.S. men's four (4-) at the competition.

The duo worked their way onto the team through the U.S. camp over the past month and with their selections to the under 23 world championship squad mark the fifth straight year that Stanford has been represented at the event.

"Dane and Alex will represent Stanford and the United States with integrity and passion in Belarus," said Stanford Director of Rowing and men's head coach Craig Amerkhanian, who is also serving as a U.S. coach for the Under 23s. "We at Stanford Rowing are proud of their efforts and also the work Bodie Manly has done within the U23 selection camp. The competition was fierce each day and the USA team as a whole is filled with exceptional student-athletes. Dane, Alex, and Bodie trained with the best each day and complimented an exemplary group of men. Dane and Alex will race in the straight four against the world's top U23 crews. We are excited as they get to wear 'USA' across their jersey for the first time."

Both having just completed their junior seasons at Stanford, McFadden and Syverson have been members of the Cardinal I Eight in each of the past two seasons. In 2009 they helped the boat to a third-place national finish at the IRA Championship Regatta as well as to a silver medal at the 2009 Pac-10 Championships.

This past season, the duo helped row the Cardinal men to a bronze-medal finish at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships.
