U.S. Under-23 Trials Tuesday Results
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Stanford men's rower Austin Hack, along with partner Dariush Aghai of the University of Wisconsin advanced to the men's pair final at the Under-23 World Championships trials Tuesday at Mercer Lake.
Hack and Aghai claimed a seven-second victory in their race Tuesday. The top four boats from the race will compete in Wednesday's final, with the winner qualifying for the 2012 Under-23 World Championships set for July 11-15 in Lithuania.
"In tailwind conditions Austin and Daruish executed their race plan to perfection," said Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian, who is in New Jersey for the trials. "Rowing at 34 spm (strokes per minute) they outdistanced the field by seven seconds."
Wednesday's final is set for a 4:20 a.m. PT (7:20 a.m. local) start.
Hack is aiming to compete at the Under-23 World Championships for the second straight year. Last summer he was part of the U.S. men's eight that captured the gold medal in an under-23 world-best time of 5:24.31 in Amsterdam.
