2012 San Diego Crew Classic Schedule

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Men's Rowing is at it again...and again. Yes, that means two-a-day training. That training will be put to the test this weekend in San Diego, as Stanford sends three eights for the San Diego Crew Classic.

While fellow classmates are spring-breaking at exotic venues globally, the Cardinal oarsmen are committed to finding the "inches" of speed this week at the Port of Redwood City. The Block "S" will be worn proudly as the Cardinal men represent their University, family, and friends.

The Stanford Men are one four teams, along with California, Washington and Harvard to win back-to-back Copely Cup Crew Classic victories. This year the competition is expected to be fierce with East Coast entries Harvard, Navy, Cornell, Temple and Michigan to round out a very competitive field which includes defending champion California.

The Cardinal open Copley Cup competition in the third heat at 8:40 a.m.

"Our guys will do the very best they can on March 31 and April 1," said Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "This is our initial 2012 race and our men will be eager. The II Eight and Frosh Eight will also have tough competition. We are focusing on quality, accuracy and unity."

The Cardinal Novice Eight, competing for the Derek Guelker Memorial Cup, open up in the second heat at 10:10 a.m., while the II Eight begins competition for the Sharp Cabrillo Cup at 11 a.m.
