Practically every member of the Stanford men's basketball team is playing extended minutes for the first time in their careers. Senior Landry Fields and sophomore Jeremy Green are the only players on this year's squad with significant starting experience from last year. Naturally, both players would need to come up big in 2009-10. And they have done just that.

USC had the late-game heroics this time against Stanford, avenging an earlier one-point road loss by scoring the game's final six points Saturday for a 54-49 victory. The Cardinal received another standout performance from Landry Fields, who registered his second straight double-double and 10th overall with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Playing all 40 minutes for the fourth time this year, Fields made 10-19 from the field to keep Stanford within striking distance.

Men's Hoops Closes Out Road Trip Saturday At USC

Stanford (10-12, 4-6 Pac-10) closes out its road trip against USC (13-9, 5-5 Pac-10), attempting to avoid what would be only the program's second four-game losing streak in 17 years. Despite suffering a 77-73 loss at UCLA two nights ago, Stanford remains two games out of first place in the crowded conference standings. However, the Cardinal is still searching for that elusive first road win of the year.

Reeves Nelson scored 18 points and Malcolm Lee hit a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left to preserve UCLA's 77-73 victory over Stanford on Thursday night at Pauley Pavilion. Landry Fields led all players with a career-high 35 points on 13-18 shooting, producing the best offensive performance by a Cardinal player since Chris Hernandez erupted for 37 points in a 78-65 win over UCLA back on Feb. 20, 2005. Fields also grabbed 10 boards, registering his ninth double-double of the year.

Meanwhile, Stanford is still searching for that elusive first road win of the year after dropping an 88-70 decision at Arizona State last weekend.
