In addition to starting the season 5-2, the two squads are similar in that both feature talented, young players adjusting to new roles. Meanwhile, Stanford is unbeaten in six games at Maples Pavilion this year.

Scouting California
California (7-5, 0-0 Pac-10) is coming off a 74-56 win over Hartford on Dec. 28.
The Golden Bears won three straight games to open the year, including a 57-50 triumph over then-No. 21 Temple at the Old Spice Classic.
California was picked to finish seventh in this year's Pac-10 preseason media poll. The Golden Bears finished 24-11 last year and 13-5 in the Pac-10 en route to its first conference crown in 50 years. The Bears also advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The Golden Bears are averaging 65.8 points per game, shooting 42.6 percent overall and grabbing 36.8 rebounds per contest.
Harper Kamp (13.2 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 88.7 percent free throws) and Jorge Gutierrez (12.3 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 47 assists) are key players to watch for Mike Montgomery's crew.

Stanford All-Time vs. California
In a series that dates back to the 1913-14 campaign, California owns a 140-112 edge. Since a four-game winning streak by Stanford- including a season sweep of the 2007-08 campaign- California has won three in a row. The Golden Bears notched a 92-66 victory at Haas Pavilion last year before collecting their first win at Maples Pavilion in three years with a 71-61 triumph in the regular season finale.

Stanford Tops Yale 60-44 Behind Solid Defensive Effort
Jeremy Green scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half before leaving with a sprained left ankle, helping Stanford beat Yale 60-44 on Dec. 28. Josh Owens added 12 points for the Cardinal, which shot 45.7 percent overall and pulled away with a strong defensive effort that limited the Bulldogs to 5-20 shooting. Green left the game with just under six minutes to play after connecting on his third straight 3-pointer. Stanford used a 12-0 run during an eight-minute stretch to pull away from Yale, which held a 37-36 lead with 13:25 left to play. The Bulldogs did not score again until 5:28 remained.
