LOS ANGELES- Stanford has been picked to finish sixth in the 2011-12 Pac-12 men's basketball preseason media poll, as announced on Friday morning at Pac-12 Media Day.

Head coach Johnny Dawkins and senior Josh Owens were in attendance representing Stanford.

The sixth-place projection is the highest since the 2007-08 campaign, when the Cardinal was tabbed for fifth. However, Stanford ended up finishing second in the Pac-10 and reaching the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

Stanford wrapped up the 2010-11 season at 15-16. Fielding a team without a senior for the first time in school history, head coach Johnny Dawkins put his rookies in a position to excel, with Anthony Brown and Dwight Powell earning Pac-10 All-Freshman Team honors. In addition to making more starts (47) than any other Pac-10 team, Stanford's freshmen logged the highest percentage of minutes played (41.7) and accounted for the highest percentage of scoring (40.3).

Additionally, Stanford was represented with four all-league picks overall, the most since four members of the Cardinal's 2008 Sweet 16 squad were recognized. Despite playing with a roster in which underclassmen accounted for 10 of the 15 spots, Stanford surpassed its win total from the previous season while its overall record dipped below the .500 mark only twice.
