STANFORD, Calif.- Sophomore forward Brook Lopez (Fresno, Calif.) has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 25-Mar. 2, as announced today by Commissioner Tom Hansen.
For the week, Lopez averaged 23.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per game as the Cardinal completed a season sweep of the Washington schools and improved to a program-best 16-1 at home.
This is the second weekly honor in Lopez' career and the first for a Stanford player this season. This week's award is the first for a Cardinal player since Brook Lopez was honored back on Jan. 29, 2007.
Lopez was also named Rivals.com National Player of the Week for the second time this season. He picked up his first national award during the week of Jan. 14-21 following his performances in a homestand against Arizona and Arizona State.
In an 82-79 victory over Washington on Feb. 28, Lopez led all scorers with 21 points (7-of-14), and also added seven rebounds and blocked four shots. Two days later against No. 22 Washington State, Lopez rallied the Cardinal from an 11-point halftime deficit to a 60-53 victory. He finished with 25 points (19 in the second half) on 11-16 shooting while grabbing six rebounds and blocking another four shots.
Lopez has scored in double-figures in 14 straight games and 18 overall while leading the Cardinal in scoring (19.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg).
