STANFORD, Calif.- Former All-American George Selleck will be honored as Stanford's representative for induction into this year's Pac-12 Men's Basketball Hall of Honor, presented by Bank of the West at next week's Pac-12 Tournament.
Inductees for the other conference schools include: Richard Jefferson (Arizona), Kurt Nimphius (Arizona State), Lamond Murray (California), Burdette Haldorson (Colorado), Jim Barnett (Oregon), A.C.Green (Oregon State), Ed O'Bannon (UCLA), Sam Barry (USC), Arnie Ferrin (Utah), George Irvine (Washington) and Steve Puidokas (Washington State).
Selleck enjoyed an outstanding career as a starting point guard during his three seasons as a member of the Stanford men's basketball program.
A two-time Honorable Mention All-American, Selleck earned recognition by United Press International (UPI) in 1954 and 1956, along with International News Service (INS) in 1956.
A native of Compton, Calif., Selleck played in 71 career contests for Stanford, averaging 13.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
Selleck wrapped up his career with 1,004 points, earning him distinction as one of 39 players in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. He closed out his career as just the third player in program history to hit the mark.
During his debut season in 1953-54, Selleck played in 23 games and averaged 15.1 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 37.1 percent overall and a team-high 78.5 percent from the foul line.
In 1954-55, Selleck competed in 24 contests and averaged 11.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.4 percent overall and 72.5 percent from the charity stripe.
Named an All-Pacific Coast Conference selection as a senior in 1955-56, Selleck appeared in 24 games while leading Stanford in scoring (16.0 ppg). He also hauled down a career-best 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 40.8 percent from the field and 62.7 percent from the foul line. Selleck also served as team captain during that season.
Selleck was drafted in the fifth round of the 1956 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia Warriors.
Selleck is also a member of the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame. Selleck went on to coach at Stanford and at the high school level, and was twice named Los Angeles Times Coach of the Year. He is now an author and accomplished sports educator.
