Stanford's Second Half Surge too Much for Hawaii Hilo
HAWAII HILO - Mark Madsen scored 16 points as 13th-ranked Stanford used a huge
second half to post a 98-49 victory over Hawaii Hilo and cruise
into the semifinals of the Big Island Invitational in Hawaii,
Hilo.
Stanford (2-0) led 44-32 at halftime before outscoring Hawaii
Hilo, 54-17, in the second half. The Cardinal will face
Valparaiso in the semifinals on Saturday.
David Moseley added 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting for the
Cardinal, who shot 59 percent in the second half (16-for-27).
They finished at 52 percent for the game (31-of-60).
Stanford, which had a decided height advantage, dominated the
backboards, outrebounding Hawaii Hilo, 53-25. The Cardinal also
limited Hawaii Hilo to 28 percent shooting (17-of-60).
Merriel Jenkins led Hawaii Hilo (0-1) with 18 points. Hawaii
Hilo will face Montana in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
