Knight Shows You Can Go Home Again, As No. 22 Stanford Defeats Seton Hall, 83-81

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New Jersey native Brevin Knight scored six of his 14 points in overtime, including a pair of free throws with 3.6 seconds remaining that gave 22nd-ranked Stanford an 83-81 triumph over Seton Hall at East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Tim Young scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, while Kris Weems added 17 points for the Cardinal (6-1), which has won five straight.

"Any win on the road in overtime is a good win," said Stanford coach Mike Montgomery. "We feel pretty fortunate with the win, but there's a lot of work to be done. ... Tim Young really played a big game for us."

Levell Sanders had 17 of his 21 points in the second half for Seton Hall (3-4), which has lost its last two games following a three-game winning streak.

"We played a terrific game. Our defense played outstanding, despite the 83-81 score. But the difference in the game was Young. He had a monster game. We couldn't contain him," said Pirates coach George Blaney.

Sanders' three-pointer with 22 seconds to go in the extra period lifted the Pirates into an 81-81 tie. But Knight, who grew up a few miles from the Seton Hall campus in East Orange, New Jersey, was fouled while driving to the basket and sank both free throws to put Stanford ahead.

Freshman Shaheen Holloway's three-point attempt bounced out at the buzzer. He finished with 20 points.

"It went down, but I don't know how it didn't go in," Blaney said. "We kept coming back. We had a lot of opportunities. I'm proud of the way they played, but we need to come back tomorrow against Wagner."

Despite making the winning free throws, Knight had a tough game. He scored 12 points from the foul line and did not collect his only field goal until overtime.

Both teams shot 35 percent from the field in the first half as Stanford grabbed a 35-33 lead. The Cardinal ended up hitting 41 percent of their shots (25-for-61), while Seton Hall connected on 37 percent (29-for-78).

"We did everything we wanted to, but we still cannot shoot well from the field, percentage-wise," Blaney said.
