TUCSON, Ariz.-- Stanford sophomore Kenny Diekroeger was named to the preseason All-America team for Collegiate Baseball, earning a spot on the second team.

Diekroeger, last year's Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, was one of 11 conference players named to one of the three preseason All-America teams released by college baseball's oldest publication.

Diekroeger will move over to shortstop for the 2011 season after playing third beside three-year starter Jake Schlander in 2010.

The Woodside (Calif.) native led the Cardinal in batting (.356) and RBIs (41), becoming the first freshman to do so in school history. Diekroeger was one of four freshmen starters in 2010 for the 31-25 Cardinal and will be joined by his younger brother, Danny, on this year's team.

Stanford begins practice after the New Year's and open the season at Rice from February 18-20. The team's home opener is Tuesday, February 22 against California, as the Cardinal have its first three series on the road to start 2011-- at Rice, at Vanderbilt and at Texas.

Mark Marquess enters his 35th season at the helm of the Cardinal, winning two national titles, playing in 14 College World Series and appearing in 26 NCAA Regionals since 1981. Stanford has played in all but four regionals the last 26 years.
