NEWPORT, Rhode Island—Stanford third baseman Kenny Diekroeger was selected as the New England Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week for the week ending June 27.

Playing for the Newport Gulls, Diekroeger had a productive offensive week, batting .480 with 12 hits, four doubles, six RBIs, and two stolen bases. Diekroeger enters the week leading the NECBL in batting at .400.

Some highlights from the week include Diekroeger’s 3-for-4 performance in the Gulls’ 5-3 win over the Lowell All-Americans, in which Diekroeger hit two doubles and scored one run; and his three RBI night in the Gulls’ 8-2 victory over the North Adams SteepleCats.

Diekroeger had an impressive freshman campaign with the Cardinal, batting a team-best .356. He was also tied for the team lead with 41 RBIs, and scored 42 runs. He finished with five home runs, second most on the team. One of his most impressive feats was a 23-game hit streak, the fourth longest for the Cardinal since 1988.

Diekroeger’s other honors include Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, first team All-Pac-10 selection, and Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American.

Diekroeger was drafted in the second round by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009.
