STANFORD-GEORGIA SERIES HISTORY All-Time Series: Tied 3-3 2008 Results: (at Omaha, Neb., June 16) Georgia 4-3 Georgia defeated the Cardinal 4-3 last Monday in the winner's bracket of the College World Series, scoring the game's final four runs, including a late two-run rally in the seventh inning that accounted for the game's winning runs. 2007 Results: Did Not Meet Current Game Win Streak: Georgia - 1 (June 16, 2008) Current Series Win Streak: N/A Current Season Series Win Streak: N/A Series Notes: Stanford and Georgia meet once more at the 2008 College World Series Saturday afternoon at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium. The Cardinal, with one loss at the CWS already, must defeat the Bulldogs twice beginning Saturday in order to advance to next week's College World Series Final. Saturday's meeting marks the seventh overall meeting between the two schools, as before last Monday, the schools had not met on the field since May 22, 1992, when the Cardinal defeated the Bulldogs, 7-3, at the NCAA South II Regional in Tallahassee, Fla. All six previous meetings between the two schools have come in the postseason, with the schools splitting those six decisions. The schools have now met five times in the College World Series, with the Bulldogs holding a 3-2 advantage. Prior to Monday's 4-3 Georgia win, Stanford had defeated Georgia, 3-2, in the teams' first meeting at the 1987 College World Series on June 1, 1987 en route to the program's first national title. The teams would then go on to meet three times at the 1990 edition of the College World Series, with Georgia capturing a 16-2 victory in the winner's bracket second round, the first meeting of the schools. The Cardinal battled back to face the Bulldogs later in the tournament, defeating Georgia, 4-2, to force a deciding second game, which Georgia was able to win on June 8 by the score of 5-1, eliminating Stanford from the postseason.
