Stanford junior second baseman Cord Phelps has been selected in Thursday's first day of the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Phelps was taken by the Cleveland Indians as a third round selection (107th overall). This is the first time Phelps has been selected in the MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Cord Phelps Bio
Phelps, a native of Santa Barbara, CA has enjoyed another strong season at second base for the Cardinal after hitting .352 on the season. Phelps was second on the squad with 13 home runs and was third on the team with 53 RBI.
Phelps was second on the team with 236 at bats and was third on the team with 138 total bases. He has played standout defense up the middle for the Cardinal in 2008, compiling a .973 fielding percentage. Phelps was named a 2008 All-Pac-10 selection.
Phelps has a .305 career batting average and 86 career RBI. He also has 235 total bases and 29 doubles in his three years on the Farm.
The Cardinal junior has had a strong postseason, hitting .429 (9-21) with two home runs and 17 total bases in Stanford's five Regional games.
