STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford Baseball had six players and two general managers on Opening Day rosters across baseball to start the 2011 Major League season.

Ruben Amaro, Jr., and Kenny Williams are both general managers. Williams, who only played football at Stanford, took over the reins of the White Sox in November, 2000 and Amaro, Jr. has been on the job since November, 2008.

Jeremy Guthrie will start his eighth MLB season and fifth as a full-time starter in the Orioles rotation, while former American League MVP candidate, White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin, will enter his sixth year.

Drew Storen, who debuted last season, is the likely closer for the Nationals. Jed Lowrie, after being a middle infielder most of his career, should also see time at first as the Red Sox ultimate utility player. Sam Fuld (Tampa Bay) and John Mayberry, Jr. (Phillies) are both outfielders for their respective clubs.

Stanford had a dozen players last year play in the Majors. All-time, 86 Major League players have gone through the arches of Stanford. Nine of those 2010 Major Leaguers have earned their Stanford degrees.

Among players from last year, Jody Gerut retired this spring following a six year career and Ryan Garko signed with the Samsung Lions to play in Korea. Jason Castro, who debuted last year, is out for the season with a knee injury. Donny Lucy (White Sox), John Hester (Arizona), Michael Taylor (Oakland), Cord Phelps (Cleveland), Chris Carter (Tampa Bay) and Greg Reynolds (Colorado) could also play in the Majors this season. Taylor and Phelps have never played before at the MLB level.
