STANFORD, Calif. - Preseason All-Americans Brian Ragira, Austin Wilson and Mark Appel have been named to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List, as announced Thursday by USA Baseball. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the award goes to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

Stanford and LSU led all schools with three players named to the Watch List. The Watch List features 50 of the nation's top amateur players. The Golden Spikes Award trophy will be awarded live July 19 on MLB Network. July 19.

Appel, the 2012 NCBWA Pitcher of the Year, was a finalist for last year's Golden Spikes Award. The senior righty will take the mound in front his hometown crowd when Stanford opens the season at Rice on Friday.

Wilson, a junior leftfielder, was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention last season after hitting .285 with a .492 slugging pct.

Also an All-Pac-12 honorable mention as a sophomore, Ragira held things down at first base for the Cardinal in 2012 while hitting a team-best .329.
