Head Coach Mark Marquess
(opening statement): "It was a great game. I felt we gave them too much. You can't give a team like Cal State Fullerton four base on balls and three hit by pitches. At least three of the base on ball guys scored. They did a great job of hitting some pitches. It was a good tough game. Fullerton was just a little tougher and stronger today. The pitching was tough. We couldn't get anything going."
(on the rivalry with Cal State Fullerton): "We've had some good games with them. We play them every year. It seems like back here in Omaha we're in the same bracket. We're very familiar with each other and their style of play. They're tough in all phases of the game. It's a good rivalry and we always have good games."
(on his future pitching lineup): "I think we'll decide tomorrow how we're going to map it out. It's a little more thought than just one game. Obviously, we have to win the game, but we're also want to try and beat Cal State Fullerton twice."
(on facing Chad Cordero): "I think he's one of the premier closers in college baseball. That's no surprise. We have lots of charts on him for the last three years. I don't think there's anyone better than Cordero. There might be others as good as him, but he's definitely in the top three. He has been for the last three years. He dominated us tonight."
Rightfielder Carlos Quentin
(on Richie Burgos' tripe in the seventh inning): "He hit it well. At first, I thought it was going to go out. I got back to the fence and took a leap. It hit a bad spot on the base of my glove."
(on throwing out Shane Costa out at second base in the seventh inning): "He hit the ball down the line. I'm sure he was aware of the situation and he tried to take second. I don't blame him because I would do the same thing. I threw it and it was on line."
Third Baseman Jonny Ash
(on his head first slide to score in the fifth inning): "I think there were two outs when Carlos (Quentin) hit the ball. Right off the bat, I knew I had to go. As I went around the bases, I started to wear out, but I knew from my peripheral vision that there was a throw coming and it was a good one. I thought if I went in feet first, he would be able to tag me up. So, I went in head first and was able to get my hand in there."
CAL STATE FULLERTON
Head Coach George Horton
(Opening statement): "You just saw a microcosm of Fullerton/Stanford games. We've had some classic battles with them through the years. We just got lucky that we had one more run than them today."
(On closer Chad Cordero): "We've had the luxury of having some great closers here at Fullerton. But we've never had a better one than Chad. You never feel real comfortable with a one run lead over a team like the Stanford Cardinal unless you have a guy like Chad Cordero."
(On the thought that beating Stanford earlier in the season possibly carrying over to the CWS): "In recent years, we haven't had great success against them here at the College World Series. I guess karma may have had something to do with our success today."
Shortstop Justin Turner
(On the last time he hit a home run): "I can't remember the last time I hit a home run, high school I guess. I knew I hit it (tonight's home run) pretty good. I was just hoping it was going to stay fair."
Relief Pitcher Chad Cordero
(On is he on top of his game right now): "I think I am. It was tough earlier in the year when I was pitching in games with eight or ten run games. I think I can throw all of my pitches for strikes right now."
