TUCSON, Ariz. -- Junior center fielder Jody Gerut and junior third baseman Josh Hochesang each drove in four runs, leading top-ranked Stanford to a 17-1 victory over Arizona here Sunday afternoon and giving the Cardinal a 2-1 series victory.
Stanford improved to 33-7-1 and 16-5 in Six-Pac play. The Cats fell to 29-20 and 9-15.
Gerut doubled, homered and homered in his first three plate appearances and scored five runs. Hochesang also homered as the Cardinal maintained its percentage-points lead in the Pac-10 South over Arizona State.
Junior lefty Brent Hoard (3-2) allowed just three hits over 7.0 innings while striking out eight. Two of Hoard's three wins this season have come against Arizona. Senior right-hander Tyler Haddix (1-1) took the loss.
Senior left fielder Jason Hendricks collected two of the Cats' five hits.
