STANFORD, Calif.-- No. 17-ranked Stanford (16-11, 3-5 Pac-10) dropped its second-straight Pac-10 series, falling 8-1 to visiting No. 9-ranked Oregon State (26-7, 7-1 Pac-10) on Saturday afternoon.
After managing just four hits on Friday night in a 1-0 loss, Josh Osich (5-0) limited the Cardinal to two hits over the first six scoreless innings, before Stanford pushed across its first run of the series in the seventh. Stanford finished with six hits.
Osich gave up a single run on two hits, walking five and striking out six over six-plus innings.
Stanford has now dropped four of the last five after winning seven of eight following a 15-day break for finals.
Jordan Pries (4-3) went the first six innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits for his second-straight weekend loss.
Kavin Keyes went 3-for-3, driving in runs in the first and third innings. A two-out single led to two runs in the first as following a single to right by Keyes, right fielder Austin Wilson bobbled the ball allowing the second run to score and give OSU a 2-0 lead. A two-out RBI double by Keyes in the third then made it 3-0. Keyes drove in the only run on Friday.
Three more runs came across in the fourth to make it 6-0. An RBI double from Ryan Dunn and a wild pitch from Pries, made it 5-0, before the Beavers' third two-out RBI, a single by Jared Norris, made it 6-0.
NOTES:The Sunday finale is at 1 p.m... Stanford travels to Santa Clara on Tuesday, before returning home for a three-game series with UCLA next weekend... OSU center fielder Brian Stamps made a diving catch to rob Zach Jones of a base hit in the eighth... Stanford after winning the series at Washington State, dropped series at USC and to Oregon State.... Brett Michael Doran walked in his first collegiate plate appearance in the ninth... Stanford avoided its first back-to-back shutouts since 3-0 and 1-0 losses at OSU in 2006. Prior to that, back-to-back shutout losses hadn't occurred since 1970.
