STANFORD, Calif. --- Sophomore Nick Day (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley HS) went 4-for-4, including a home run, to lead No. 1 Stanford (28-5-1) to an 8-2 win over visiting Nevada (16-15) on Tuesday afternoon at Sunken Diamond. The Cardinal banged out 15 hits against eight Wolfpack pitchers to improve to 15-2-1 in nonconference play.
Stanford broke a 1-1 with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning that put the game away. Day led off the inning with a solo homer to left, his first of the year, and drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI single. John Gall (Portola Valley, CA/St. Francis HS) also added a two-run single in the inning.
Four Cardinal pitchers limited the Wolfpack to just four hits, with junior Tony Cogan (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park HS) working 2.0 scoreless innings to improve to 3-0. Also for the Cardinal, junior Josh Hochgesang (Fullerton, CA/Sunny Hills HS) hit his third home run in as many games.
Sophomore Joe Inglett (Citrus Heights, CA/Mesa Verde HS) had two hits and two runs scored for the Wolfpack.
