STANFORD, CA --- Junior second baseman Tony Schrager (Omaga, NE/Yale University) hit two home runs to lead No. 1 Stanford (24-4-1 overall, 9-2 in the Six-Pac) to an easy 15-3 win over visiting UCLA (11-20, 5-11) on Sunday afternoon at Sunken Diamond. The Cardinal is 5-0 against UCLA this season, and has outscored the Bruins 73-23 in those contests.

Stanford took control early with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jody Gerut (Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook HS) and John Gall (Portola Valley, CA/St. Francis HS) opened the scoring with back-to-back doubles, and Josh Hochgesang (Fullerton, CA/Sunny Hills HS) made it 3-0 with a run-scoring single. Schrager then capped the inning with a three-run homer over the left-center field fence that was his eighth of the season. The homer was the first of five for the Cardinal on the afternoon.

The Cardinal then added two more in the third, keyed by a solo homer from Gall, before breaking the game wide open with six more in the bottom of the fifth. Hochgesang and Schrager led off the inning with back-to-back home runs, and Gerut later followed with a three-run blast over the right field fence for a 14-0 advantage.

The 14-run cushion was more than enough for Chad Hutchinson (Del Mar, CA/Torrey Pines), who allowed just two hits and one run over 7.0 innings to improve to 5-2.

Freshman Nick Lyon (Monroe, WA/Monroe HS) had two hits off the bench to lead the Bruins.

The teams will meet for the final time in 1998 on Monday night at 6 p.m. at Sunken Diamond.
