High School: Graduated in 2007 from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he was a teammate of fellow Stanford player Cory Bannister and 2008 Cardinal star Austin Yount...helped his team to three consecutive Arizona 4-A state championships (2004-06), while Chaparral earned a No. 5 national ranking in 2005 and No. 3 in 2006...had a huge 2007 season, when he was selected a second-team All-American (infielders only) by Collegiate Baseball, a third-team All-American by the National High School Baseball Coaches' Association and a Louisville Slugger honorable mention All-American by Collegiate Baseball following a campaign in which he hit .501 with eight home runs and 40 RBI...was also chosen the 2007 Arizona Player of the Year and the Desert Sky Region Player of the Year in 2007...a two-time all-state and first-team All-Desert Sky Region selection (2006 and 2007)...hit .420 with two home runs as a junior...also played point guard in basketball during his freshman and sophomore years...coached in baseball by Jerry Dawson.

Other Amateur Baseball: Did not play in the summer of 2008...played for the Arizona Firebirds during the summers of 2006 and 2007...led the 2006 club to the Connie Mack World Series title, as the Firebirds scored 33 runs over the final two games to secure the crown...helped his 2007 team reach the second round of the same tournament.

Personal Information: Son of Don and Nancy Schlander...has one brother, Tyler, and one sister, Molly, who played college basketball at Whitworth University from 2004-07...uncle, Tom Jones, played college football at Tulsa (1969-71)...chose Stanford because, in his words, "it's the best combination of athletics and academics, and it has a great baseball tradition"...describes himself as outgoing and determined...undeclared major.
