At Stanford: Two-way player who was an integral member of the Cardinal bullpen as a freshman, and will again be a key arm in 2009...pitched a lot in short relief toward the end of Stanford's 2008 College World Series campaign, and did not allow an earned run after April 28 (8.1ip)...is tremendously valuable out of the bullpen, as he has a strong arm and can easily pitch on consecutive days...competitive pitcher who attacks hitters with any of three pitches - a low 90s fastball, breaking ball or changeup...is also a very good hitter, who provides a power bat from the right side...is a good defensive first baseman, and can be used either in the field or as a designated hitter.

As a Freshman in 2008: Made an immediate impact on the hill during his rookie campaign, pitching in 16 games (one start)...finished with a 1-1 record, one save and a 6.10 ERA (14er, 20.2ip), but those numbers tell only part of the story...did not allow an earned run over his final seven appearances and 8.1 innings, a run that began April 28 and spanned through the postseason...limited opponents to a paltry .115 batting average during the stretch (3-for-26), with only one extra-base hit...stranded 13 of 18 inherited runners (72.2%), including 10 of his last 12...made his collegiate debut during the first game of an opening day doubleheader against Nebraska (February 22)...recorded his first save April 13 at Oregon State, retiring his only two batters faced to close out a 4-2 Stanford victory...made his only start April 21 at Santa Clara, working the first 2.0 innings...earned his first win with 2.2 innings of hitless, scoreless relief (1hbp) May 4 at San Jose State...made three relief appearances during the NCAA Tournament, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings (1h,1bb,1so)...made his postseason debut with 0.1 inning May 30 vs. UC Davis in Regional action, and pitched twice at the College World Series...tossed a scoreless inning June 14 against Florida State in the Omaha opener, and retired his only batter faced June 16 vs. Georgia.

High School: Graduated in 2007 from Franklin High School in El Paso, Texas, after attending Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, Texas for his freshman and sophomore years...was a two-sport standout, playing both baseball and football...in baseball, earned 2007 first-team All-District 1-5A honors and was named the 2007 City Most Valuable Player for El Paso after hitting .550 with 14 home runs as a senior...also led his team to the 2007 District title...was a two-time first team all-city selection (2006-07)...selected to the 2006 All-District 1-5A second team...as an offensive guard in football, helped his team to the 2006 district title and the Elite 8 Texas state quarterfinals...earned first team All-District 1-5A, first team all-city and second team all-region honors on the gridiron as a senior in 2006...coached in baseball by Larry Vucan.

Other Amateur Baseball: Had a dominating 2008 summer campaign both on the mound and at the plate for the Woodstock River Bandits of the Valley Baseball League...made eight pitching appearances (one start), forging a 1.75 ERA (5er, 25.2ip)...held opposing hitters to a .190 batting average (19-for-100), with an astounding 45 strikeouts against only four walks in 25.2 innings...batted .301 (25-for-83) with five doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI and a .506 slugging percentage in 22 games...added a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, handling 116 total chances without an error...played for the Lubbock Hubbers during the summer of 2007 and the Albuquerque Cubs in the summer of 2006...spent the previous two summer campaigns (2004 and 2005) with the Arlington Heat...suited up for the Dallas Mustangs during the summer of 2003.

Personal Information: Son of Mike and Mary Marshall...full name is Michael Allen Marshall, Jr....was born in Pasadena, Calif....has one sister, Marcheta...father, Mike, played Major League Baseball for 11 seasons (1981-91) with the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox...first baseman and right fielder was a 1984 National League All-Star, and helped the Dodgers to World Series titles in both 1981 and 1988...says his favorite moment in sports history is Kirk Gibson's dramatic walk-off home run to defeat the Oakland Athletics in Game One of the 1988 World Series...hobbies include reading novels, watching movies and running...would like to pursue a career as an architect...undeclared major, but considering an engineering major with an emphasis in architectural design.
