First Ranked Stanford Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams Race to Victory

Stanford - Freshman sensation Julia Stamps, running in her first collegiate race, ran the second fastest time ever on the Stanford course to lead the #1 ranked Stanford women's cross country to victory in the 24th annual Stanford Cross Country Invitationalon Saturday.

Stamps, from Santa Rosa High School, ran the 5,000 meter course in 16:47. Mary Cobb and Sarna Renfro placed second and third for the Cardinal. Stanford easily won the team title with 22 points. Brigham Young, ranked second in the nation, placed second with 54 points.

Stanford men's team, also #1 ranked in the country, placed four of its top runners in the top five to win with 22 points. UCLA was second with 91 points. Bruin runner Mebrahtom Keflezighi won the individual title over 8,000 meters.

All the races were run at the Stanford Golf Course.
