Belmont, Ca - Redshirt freshman Jonathan Pierce posted the third-fastest 8,000 meter performance on the Crystal Springs course as the defending NCAA champion Stanford men's cross country team dominated the field at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday. Pierce, from Ogdensburg, New York, ran the distance in 24:51.3. Stanford took each of the top five individual collegiate places in the race to win the team title with just 15 total points. Cal Poly finished second with 45 points in the eight-team field. Brett Gotcher (24:51.6) and Jacob Gomez (25:51.8) finished less than a second behind Pierce. The Cardinal women also turned in an impressive season-opening performance with a first place finish. Cardinal runners took five of the top seven individual collegiate places overall to record 17 points, 37 ahead of runnerup Santa Clara in the ten-team field. Sara Bei led all runners with a time of 18:03.02, the fourth-fastest time for a woman on the 5,000 meter Crystal Springs Course. Bei paced fellow Cardinal runners Katy Trotter (18:03.04) and Jeane Goff (18:03.6), who finished less than half a second behind. Freshman Amanda Trotter finished fourth (18:06.2) while Anita Siraki placed seventh (18:35.8). The Cardinal will host the Stanford Invitational (Sept. 27) at the Stanford Golf Course.
