11 Stanford Women Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

NEW ORLEANS - A day after 10 men were named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Scholar-Academic team, 11 women were awarded the same honor. Stanford was tied for fifth in the country with the 11 honorees.

Leading the Stanford honorees were a pair of graduating seniors that will competing in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Arantxa King (Bermuda) and Katerina Stefanidi (Greece) both were named to the Scholar-Academic Team, King for the fourth time.

Other honorees were Emilie Amaro, Mary Kate Anselmini, Aisling Cuffe, Justine Fedronic, Kathy Kroeger, Jordan Merback, Joy O'Hare, Kellie Schueler and Alyssa Wisdom. Kroeger is a three-time honoree, while Fedronic, O'Hare, Schueler and Wisdom were honored for the second time.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
