EUGENE, Ore. -- Day 2 of the Olympic Track and Field Trials provided more excitement, including a World Record in the decathlon by Ashton Eaton. For Stanford, Erica McLain ('08) and Whitney Liehr ('11) each competed in the triple jump and qualified for the final.

McLain placed sixth after leaping 43-7 ¾ as she continues her comeback from a horrific ankle injury. The 2008 Olympian was off her personal best, but had enough to earn three more jumps in the final.

Liehr will also move on after placing 10th overall. She leaped 42-10 ¾ to advance.

Saturday will be a lighter day for Stanford with just Summer Pierson competing in the final of the discus. McLain and Liehr will each have a day off before competing in the final on Monday.
