Chris Derrick

STANFORD, Calif. --Chris Derrick is one of the most decorated athletes in Stanford history, earning 14 All-America honors over his career. Now, less than week after his graduation, he will look to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team in the 10,000 meters.
Derrick is the American Collegiate Record holder in the event and a strong contender to make the team. He set that record (27:31.38) at the Payton Jordan Invitational in May and later placed third at the NCAA meet in the same event.
Derrick has not lost to an American athlete in any event since February when Bernard Lagat beat him over 5,000 meters at the Milrose Games. Derrick ran 13:19.58 on that day and achieved the Olympic 'A' Standard in the event, but lost to the former World Champion.
The 10,000 meters will be run Friday, June 22, on the second day of the U.S. Olympic Trials from Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
