DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Stanford track and field teams begin the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday from Drake Stadium. The No. 7 women will compete in 15 events and have a good shot at a high team finish. Meanwhile the No. 16 men will compete in just eight events, but a couple who are favored for the individual titles.
The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be streamed live for free all four days. Wednesday, the meet will be on NCAA.com with the link above. Thursday through Saturday the meet will be on ESPN3.com with the exception of 9-11am on Saturday that will be on ESPNU TV.
There are many storylines for the Cardinal athletes beginning with each Katerina Stefanidi and Chris Derrick trying for their first NCAA title in their final NCAA meet. Stefanidi will compete in the pole vault on Wednesday beginning at 3:30pm, PT. Derrick will run the final of the 10,000 meters at 6:45pm, PT, Wednesday night. For Derrick it is his 14th NCAA race in XC, indoors and outdoors and while he has never finished worse than eighth, it is his final shot for a title.
Said Derrick in a recent interview with sfexaminer.com on winning the title, "It's really important. I'm so involved with pursuing that, I can't really quantify [what it would mean]."

Other competitors in finals on Wednesday are Geoffrey Tabor in the discus and Brianna Bain in the javelin. Several others will run the prelims of running events.
