FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -
Stanford sophomore Luke Lefebure won the NCAA Elite 89 Award, given to the athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Lefebure, a math and computational science major who carries a 3.85 GPA, is competing in the distance medley relay.
Lefebure, an indoor track All-American from West Chester, Pa., specializes in the 800 meters and runs the third leg in the Cardinal DMR that entered the NCAA meet ranked No. 3 in the nation.
In the NCAA's words: "The Elite 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA championships."
