Seattle, Wa - Solomon Welch set a school record in the triple jump to highlight Stanford's participation at the Washington Last Chance Indoor Meet on Saturday at the University of Washington.
Welch jumped 51-10 1/2 (15.81m) to easily beat his previous school record of 50-5 1/2 (15.68m) at the Washington Invitational earlier this year. Welch won the event and met the NCAA provisional standard. Teammate Feranmi Okanlami finished second and jumped a career-best 51-7 1/4 (15.73m) which also is second-best in school history. Okanlami easily bested his previous effort of 50-0 3/4 (15.26m) at the MPSF Championship earlier this season.
Lauren Jespersen and Joaquin Chapa met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the mile with respective times of 4:03.51 and 4:04.33.
Stanford opens its outdoor season on Sunday at Cobb Track & Angell Field. The meet begins at 1:30 p.m.
