Stanford, Calif. - Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field Edrick Floreal has announced the signing of 24 high school seniors to national letters of intent. The class of 15 women and nine men will compete for Stanford beginning in 2012.

The class will continue the advancement of the Cardinal as a national power that is competitive in all event areas.

MEN
Darian Brooks - Kennedy High School - Seattle, Wash.
Brooks is a short sprinter and jumper from the state of Washington. He is in the midst of a busy indoor season competing in the 60 meters, long jump and triple jump. Brooks finished third in the triple jump at the Washington 3A State Meet in 2009 and finished as the runner-up in 2010. Brooks has personal best of 6.99 in the 60, 22-6 in the long and 47-9 ¾ in the triple jump.

Matt Carpowich - Torrey Pines H.S. - Encinitas, Calif.
Carpowich is a relative newcomer to track and field, but had a breakout spring season in 2010. He rewrote the Torrey Pines High School record books by running 1:53.25 for 800 meters and 4:13.40 for 1600 meters. Carpowich continued his success in cross country where he finished 17th in the nation at the prestigious Footlocker National Cross Country Championships in San Diego.

Dalton Duvio - John Curtis Christian School - River Ridge, La.
Duvio is an ex-football player turned pole-vaulter. In 2010, he helped John Curtis Christian win its first team state title in 26 years with his victory in the pole vault. He was also the runner-up in the pole vault in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, Duvio jumped his personal best of 16-4 to help Team New Orleans win the 2010 NAPVA Championships at the Clovis Street Vault.

Luke Lefebure - West Chester Henderson H.S. - West Chester, Pa.
Lefebure is a middle-distance specialist. He won the 2010 Pennsylvania Indoor State title at 800 meters and finished as the runner-up at the outdoor state meet in a personal best of 1:51.08. He went on to finish 12th at the New Balance Outdoor National Championships in June. Lefebure is the fourth-fastest returning 800-meter runner in the nation.

 

 

Tim Luthin - Warwick Valley H.S. - Warwick, N.Y.
Luthin is a distance runner out of New York who has found success in events ranging from the 800 meters to the steeplechase. He is currently ranked No. 6 in the nation in the indoor mile with a time of 4:15.37. Luthin is a five-time high school All-American and was a member of his team's distance medley relay team that set state records both indoors and outdoors. Tim has personal bests of 4:13.54 (1,600 meters) and 9:05.88 (3,200 meters).

Jim Rosa - West Windsor Plainsboro North H.S. - Plainsboro, N.J.
Jim, twin brother of Joe, won the 2010 Nike Indoor National Championships in the two mile with a time of 9:00.36. In June, Jim finished second to his brother over two miles at the New Balance National Outdoor Championships in 8:51.46. Jim was the 2010 New Jersey State Champion at 1,600 meters in 4:07.89 and has a personal best in the mile of 4:07.70. This past fall Jim won the New Jersey Meet of Champions and was named the 2010 Gatorade New Jersey Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Joe Rosa - West Windsor Plainsboro North H.S. - Plainsboro, N.J.
Joe, twin brother of Jim, set the National Junior Class Record at two miles after running 8:44.06 to win at the New Balance National Outdoor Championships last spring. He also participated in the Adidas Grand Prix Mile where he finished fifth in 4:08.65. During the 2009 cross-country season, Joe broke the course record at the famed Holmdel Park in New Jersey with a time of 14:56 and later went on to finish third at Nike Cross Nationals in Portland. Joe was also named the 2009 Gatorade New Jersey Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Dartis Willis Jr. - Detroit Country Day School - Beverly Hills, Mich.
Willis was the 2010 ESPN RISE High Jump National Champion. The All-American high jumper was also the 2010 Michigan State high jump champion with a jump of 7-0. He won the 2010 Indoor State high jump title as well. As a sophomore, he was the outdoor state runner-up and has been an AAU Junior Olympian eight times. Willis is currently the national indoor leader in the high jump with a personal best of 7-2 from the Great Lakes Classic.

WOMEN
Mary Kate Anselmini - Ward Melville High School - Setauket, N.Y.
Anselmini is the returning national champion in the 2,000-meter steeplechase from the New Balance National Outdoor Championships in North Carolina. This indoor season, she won the Bishop Loughlin Games and automatically qualified for the prestigious Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden. Anselmini has personal bests of 4:58.06 in the mile, 6:42.78 in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, 9:48.00 in the 3,000 meters and 17:45 in the 5,000 meters (XC).

Brianna Bain - Aloha High School - Beaverton, Ore.
Bain is a javelin thrower from Oregon that is currently the fifth best returner in the nation with her throw of 154-0. Bain earned All-State honors the last two years at the Oregon 6A State Meet finishing as the runner-up in 2009 and fourth in 2010. She has won the Jesuit Twilight Relays Javelin Title the last two years and has also putted the shot and thrown the discus. In water polo, Brianna is a two-time league scoring champion and was awarded MVP of her team and league in 2010.

Alli Billmeyer - Torrey Pines H.S. - Encinitas, Calif.
Billmeyer finished third, fifth and third in the last three California State meets in cross country. She was also the 1,600-meter runner-up at the 2010 California State Meet in 4:47.79. In 2008 and 2009, she finished fourth and fifth in the 1,600 meters, giving her six top-5 finishes at the State Meet in the last three years. Billmeyer has personal bests of 2:10.42 in the 800 meters, 4:45.06 in the 1,600 meters, 10:18.70 in the 3,200 meters and 17:25 in the 5,000 meters (XC).

Jaye Buchbinder - Chadwick H.S. - Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.
Buchbinder finished eighth in the 800 meters at the 2010 California State Meet after running a personal best of 2:11.05 in the prelims. She has also run 4:55.77 for 1,600 meters. In 2009, Buchbinder was the runner-up in the Division 5 Cross Country State Meet, showing that she has range from 800 all the way to 5,000 meters.

Aisling Cuffe - Cornwall H.S. - Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y.
Cuffe is the recent recipient of the 2010 Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year Award. Last month she won the Junior Cross Country title over 6,000 meters and will represent Team USA in Spain in March. This past fall, Cuffe won the Footlocker National Cross Country Championships by 34 seconds, the third largest margin of victory in the meet's history. Cuffe is also the two-time defending USATF Junior National Champion at 5,000 meters. She is the New York State record holder at 3,000 meters a mark of 9:20.94 and the national junior class record holder at two miles with her 10:02.49.

Lauren Ellis - West Florence High School - West Florence, S.C.
Ellis is an All-American sprinter from South Carolina. She has earned all-state honors in the 100, 200 and 400 meters. In 2009, as just a sophomore, she won the 4A state title at 400 meters and finished second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 meters all on the same day. Also in 2009, Ellis went on to make the final at the USATF Junior Nationals at 400 meters. She has personal bests of 12.12 in the 100, 24.38 in the 200 and 54.29 in the 400 meters.

Amber Farrell - Illinois Mathematics and Sciences Academy - Aurora, Ill.
Farrell won both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles at the 2010 2A Illinois State Meet, both in state record times. Later that spring she went on to win the 100-meter hurdles and finish second in the 400-meter hurdles at the USATF Youth Nationals. The previous spring, Farrell won both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles at the 2A Illinois State Meet. She has personal bests of 14.17 (100-meter hurdles), 43.08 (300-meter hurdles), 57.25 (400 meters) and 61.14 (400-meter hurdles).

Julia Foster - Albuquerque Academy - Albuquerque, N.M.
Foster is a nine-time state champion in New Mexico. She has three cross-country titles, three 1,600-meter titles, two 3,200-meter titles and one state title in the sprint medley relay. Foster was also named the Gatorade New Mexico Girls Runner of the Year for cross country twice (2009, 2010) and once in track (2010). She won the NXN Southwest Regional this year in cross country and competed at the Footlocker National Cross Country Championships. She has personal bests of 4:35.71 (1,500 meters) and 10:36.63 (two miles).

Rebecca Hammer - Buhach Colony High School - Atwater, Calif.
Hammer is an experienced shot putter and discus thrower from Northern California. Her personal best of 150-5 in the discus is eighth-best returning mark in the nation going into the 2011 outdoor season. Last spring, Hammer finished sixth in the California State Meet in the discus and also competed in the meet in the shot put. She has a personal best in the shot put of 43-4 ½.

Jazmin Harper - Oakmont High School - Roseville, Calif.
Harper is a four-time all-state sprinter from California. She has made the final of the 400 meters at the California State Meet each of the last three years with her highest finish being fifth in 2009 in a personal best of 55.35. She was the San Joaquin Section Masters Champion in 2009 at 200 meters and came back the same day to finish second in the 400 meters with a time of 55.77. Harper has also run the 100-meter dash.

Molly McNamara - Red Bank Catholic H.S. - Little Silver, N.J.
McNamara was a five-time state champion in New Jersey in 2010, winning the 800 and 1,600 meters indoors and the 800, 1,600 and 4x400-meter relay outdoors. She owns the New Jersey sophomore State Record at 1,000 meters and has personals bests of 2:09.63 (800), 2:53.43 (1,000) and 4:51.13 (1,600). McNamara's cross country accomplishments include winning the NXN Northeast regional and the New Jersey state title this fall.

Chelsey Sveinsson - Greenhill Addison - Addison, Texas
Sveinsson was the 2009 Outdoor National Champion in both the mile and the two-mile. She has also been named the Gatorade Texas Girls Runner of the Year five different times, three times for cross country and twice for track. Sveinsson was the 2008 Nike Cross Country Nationals champion and finished as the runner-up at the Footlocker National Cross Country Championships in 2009. The sophomore national record holder at two miles, she has personal bests of 2:08.46 in the 800, 4:18.13 in the 1,500, 4:40.24 in the mile and 10:04.85 for two miles.

Kailea Tracy-Visintainer - Seabury Hall High School - Makawao, Hawaii
Tracy-Visintainer is a five-time all-state runner at 200 and 400 meters from Hawaii. She won the state title at both 200 and 400 meters in 2008 and finished as the runner-up at 400 meters in 2009. She is the top ranked returner in the state of Hawaii over 400 meters.

Maddie Treasure - Knoxville West High School - Knoxville, Tenn.
Treasure won the 2010 Nike Indoor National Championship in the Pentathlon, earning All-American status. She has helped lead her team to two state titles and one runner-up finish in the Division I AAA Class. Treasure was on the 4x400-meter relay team that set a state record and has earned 14 all-state honors in her career. She holds six school records, including the pentathlon, 4x400, triple jump, high jump, heptathlon, and javelin.

Katie Zingheim - Granite Bay High School - Granite Bay, Calif.
Zingheim is a very experienced pole-vaulter from Granite Bay. She has twice been all-state with her third and seventh place finishes at the 2010 and 2009 California State Meets. She is also the two-time defending Golden West Invitational pole vault champion. In June of 2010, she went on to place sixth at USATF Junior Nationals. Her personal best of 13-0 makes her the top returning vaulter in the state of California and the third returner in the nation.
