Northridge, Ca - It was a very successful Saturday for the Stanford men's and women's track & field teams at the NCAA West Regionals at Cal State Northridge. The day's success was highlighted with a school record in the men's 400 meter relay, the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase and the women's 1,600 meter relay.
Eleven Cardinal athletes finished fifth or better on Saturday including a win by Jill Camarena in the shot put to earn berths to the NCAA Track & Field Championships at the University of Texas from June 9-12. The top five finishers at the NCAA West Regionals earned berths to the NCAA's.
Camarena added another title to her resume with a throw of 55-7 3/4 (16.96m) in the shot put. Camarena will compete in her third straight NCAA Championship where she has finished third the last two years.
Stanley Wilson, who only recently joined the track & field team after competing in spring drills with the Cardinal football team, finished fifth in the 100 meters (10.52) and anchored the 400 meter relay team to a fourth place finish in a school record time of 39.71. T.J. Rushing ran the leadoff leg followed by Nick Sebes, Curtis Goehring and Wilson. Stanford's school record time beat the long standing time of 39.84 set in 1978. That team was composed of Darrin Nelson, Alan Sheats, Gordon Banks and James Lofton.

, Nashonme Johnson
, Janice Davis
and Ashley Freeman
