Philadelphia, Pa - Grant Robison, the 2004 NCAA outdoor champion in the 1,500 meters, added another title to his running resume on Thursday when he captured the 5,000 meter crown at the 110th Penn Relays.
Robison beat 25 other runners in a time of 14:06.63, easily outrunning Dusty Lieb of Penn in second place at 14:17.79. Robison's time easily beat the NCAA Regional qualifying standard of 14:18.58.
In other running events on Thursday during the Distance Running Carnival portion of the Penn Relays, the women's distance medley relay team of Arianna Lambie (1,200 meters, 3:22.2), Nashonme Johnson (400 meters, 52.2), Chinny Offor (800 meters, 2:10.9) and Sara Bei (1,600 meters, 4:41.5) just missed the school record of 11:06.23 with a fifth place time of 11:06.83. Tennessee won the competition with a time of 10:59.35.
In the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, freshman Amanda Trotter finished fifth in a time of 10:53.31. the third-best time in school history and a NCAA Regional qualifying time. Callie Bradley of Dickinson won the race in 10:39.00.
In the women's 4 x 400 meter relay, the Cardinal team of Keisha Gaines, Janice Davis, Christine Moschella and Ashley Freeman won their heat in a time of 3:39.38, and thus qualified for Saturday's final.
