Austin, Tx - Erica McLain successfully returned home to the state of Texas and scored a victory in the triple jump on Saturday at the Texas Relays.

McLain, a freshman from Plano, Texas and a three-time high school state champion in the triple jump, saved her best effort on the final jump (44-4wa, 13.51m). That mark would have been a school record, but it was wind-aided (+2.8). The school record is 43-4 1/2 (13.22m) by Jackie Edwards in 1992. Chaytan Hill of Kansas State finished second (43-7 1/4, 13.29m).

The Cardinal women's 400 meter relay team finished fifth with the second-best time in school history (44.28). The school record remains 44.18 set last year.

Cardinal Catalogue: Samantha Shepard and Melissa Yunghans each gained NCAA Regional qualifying status on Saturday at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational ... Shepard leaped 12-5 1/2 (3.80m) in the pole vault while Yunghans threw the shot put 48-4 1/2 (14.74m) ... Michael Robertson threw the discus 195-6 (59.59m) at UCLA, a regional qualifying mark and third-best in school history ... At the Brutus Hamilton Memorial Invitational, Arianna Lambie qualified for regionals with a time of 2:09.13 in the 800 meters.
