Seattle, Wa - Ashley Freeman led a 1-2-3 finish in the 400 meters and Anita Siraki won the 5,000 meters to help lead the Stanford women's indoor track & field team to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship on Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Track.
Freeman, a freshman, ran the oval in 54.16, a career-best and the second-best time in school history. Nashonme Johnson finished second at 54.35 while Keisha Gaines placed third (55.25). The 1-2-3 sweep gave Stanford 24 points as the Cardinal won the team title with 148 points. UCLA finished second with 109 while Washington placed third with 83. Twelve schools from the Pac-10 and the Big West Confereence competed.
Siraki added to Stanford's total with a victory in the 5,000 meters (16:58.74). Stanford also won first place honors in the 4 x 400 meter relay (Chinny Offor, Nashonme Johnson, Keisha Gaines, Ashley Freeman) in a season-best time of 3:40.19. Offor also ran the second leg on Stanford's winning effort in the distance medley relay. Sara Bei, who finished second in the mile, ran the opening leg while Offor ran the second leg followed by Katie Hotchkiss and Alicia Craig. Their time was 11:18.42. A day earlier, Craig won the 3,000 meter league title.
Jill Camarena finished second in the shot put (55-7, 16.94m) while Janice Davis finished second in the 60 meters (7.52).
The Stanford men's team finished third in the ten-team competition with 82.5 points. UCLA won the men's title with 127 followed by California with 108.
The Cardinal picked up sizable points in the 5,000 meters with a second place finish by
Neil Davis (14:10.25), Issac Hawkins in third place (14:10.96,
Brett Gotcher in fourth (14:16.27) and
Jonathan Pierce in fifth (14:17.36). The distance medley relay team of
Seth Hejny,
Gerren Crochet,
Joaquin Chapa and
David Vidal placed second in a time of 9:47.32).
