Assistant Coach - Distances

Experience:
2nd Season

Garrett Heath begins his second season as a volunteer assistant after one of the most decorated careers in Stanford history. Heath was a nine-time All-American during his time on The Farm and won a national title as a member of the 2007 distance medley relay.

Heath was a key member of the 2010 coaching staff that saw seven distance runners earn a total of nine All-America honors, including his younger brother Elliot.

In addition to his coaching, Heath continues to train under head coach Jason Dunn as a professional for the Bay Area Track Club. Last year he competed in several meets in Europe, lowering his personal best in the 1,500 meters to 3:37. Heath also competed in the Milrose Mile in New York City with a group of the best milers in the world.

In 2009, Heath was the national runner-up in the 1,500 meters during the track season and earned an All-America honor for his 33rd-place NCAA finish in cross country. He also continued his season into the summer competing at the U.S. National Championships in the 1,500 meters. In 2008 he was a semifinalist in the 1,500 at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Heath will continue to train under head coach Jason Dunn as he pursues a professional running career.

Heath has two years of coaching experience in cross country as well. Last season, the Cardinal swept the Pac-10 titles with the men winning in convincing fashion and the women winning the closest race in conference history. At the NCAA meet, the men captured a fourth-place trophy with All-America performances from Chris Derrick and Jake Riley. Heath continues to have the opportunity to work with many of his former teammates, including his younger brother, Elliott, a four-time All-American at Stanford.

Heath is 2009 Stanford graduate with a bachelor of science in management science and engineering. He is currently completing his Master's in management science and engineering. Formerly of Winona, Minn., Heath now resides in Palo Alto.
