New Haven, Conn - The Stanford coed sailors
earned 8th overall out of the 24 schools competing at the annual
Harry Anderson Trophy hosted by Yale's Varsity Sailing Team.
Conditions at the two day event were tough, with light, shifty winds
funneling through the hills and valleys of the Connecticut shoreline.
Competeing for the Cardinal were All-American Dave Phillips '04
and crew Anna Vu '06 in A-Division. The duo kept their finishes in
the top 10 and managed to keep themselves in the top 5 of the A-Div
fleet for the entire regatta. Unfortunately, losing a post-race
protest added 27 points and shot them down to 7th in the tough A
division fleet.
In B-Division, Peter Deming '05 made his return to the team
after taking a year off. Paired with veteran crew Taylor Clark '04,
the B-Div team experienced some ups and downs in their scores. "I'm
extremely happy that Pete & Taylor were able to fight it out at the
top of the fleet in most races," explained head coach Jay Kehoe,
"with a few weeks of practice they'll be more consistent."
Deming/Clark earned 9th in B-Division.
The Stanford Varsity Sailing team returns for pre-season
practice on September 17th. They will be moving into their new
facility and unloading their new fleet of boats. In addition
they'll be getting to know their new athletic trainers in the gym
and spending a great deal of time on the water. Their next major
competition is the Bryson Women's Regatta hosted at the new Stanford
Boathouse and the PCIYRA Men's Singlehanded Champs hosted by USC.
Both events are October 4-5.
