STANFORD, Calif.-- Cardinal Sailing is ranked No. 12 nationally in Sailing World's fall women's poll and No. 14 in the coed division entering the season.
Stanford was one of only eight programs last year to compete in all three national championships, after sweeping the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference team, coed and women's championships in May. Stanford finished 18th at Coed Nationals in June and 13th at the women's championship that same week.
The Cardinal, which opens up September 24-26 at the PCCSC Singlehanded Championships, return all-conference sailors Hannah Burroughs, Nick Dugdale, Eliza Richartz, and Rebecca King. King was named all-PCCSC for both the women's and coed divisions.
King and Richartz are part of a young group of sailors for now third year coach John Vandemoer. Both were freshmen last season and join a group of incoming recruits that have already established themselves this past summer.
That list includes: Mateo Vargas, who finished 13th at the World Youth Championships and won the U.S. Youth Championship, Molly McKinney, who was the national runner-up at the Junior Women's Singlehanded Championships, Oliver Toole, who was third at the 29er Nationals and Kelly Ortel, who was second at the Club 420 Nationals.
