STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford Sailing, which has remained atop the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference and competed in the national championships in each of John Vandemoer's three seasons is ranked No. 9 amongst coed teams and No. 10 amongst women's teams to start the 2011 season.
The Cardinal return seven all-PCCSC sailors to a talented squad that has won eight of a possible nine PCCSC spring championships in Vandemoer's three seasons. The squad has also competed in all three national championships in each of those three seasons, finishing eighth in team racing, 13th in the coed division and 14th in the women's squad in 2011.
Leading the charge is two-time All-PCCSC sailor Nick Dugdale, and All-PCCSC juniors Eliza Richartz and Rebecca King. Four freshmen were named all-conference last year-- Kevin Laube, Mateo Vargas, Molly McKinney and Sally Mace.
Stanford opens its season on September 23, 24 and 25 by hosting the men's and women's singlehanded championships. McKinney, Mace and Toole competed at last year's national singlehanded championships after qualifying as one of the top-three sailors in the conference championship.
