Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford Varsity Sailing Team will host the Annual Jeremy D. McIntyre Team Race Intersectional this weekend, March 2 & 3, 2002. It is Stanford's most major intersectional event of the year, hosted at their Sailing Center in Redwood City. The annual team race regatta was re-named for Alum Jeremy McIntyre '94 after his tragic death in 1999. This event is nationally regarded as the most competitive college sailing event on the West Coast. The event is limited to the most competitive teams from each of the six intercollegiate sailing districts in the United States, Boston College, U of South Florida, U Washington, Tulane, U Texas, U Hawaii, U of Southern California and Stanford will all be fielding teams at this event.

The format of this event makes it one of the most exciting forms of sailboat racing to watch. Team Racing pits three boats from one team against three boats from another team. Teams utilize rules and maneuvering skills to dominate their opponent. Colored sails make it easy for spectators to see who is winning. Racing will take place in Redwood City Creek's turning basin from 10am to 4pm Saturday and 10am to 3pm Sunday. Best viewing will be from the USGS dock and ramp off of Seaport Boulevard. Awards are scheduled between 3-4 pm on Sunday, March 3 at Stanford's Sailing Center off of Cardinal Way in the Port of Redwood City.
