Cambridge, Mass.-- Stanford Sailing was forced to handle winds of up to 25 miles per hour, finishing in 15th place at the historic Schell Regatta and in last place at Harvard's Women's Victorian Coffee Urn, following the first of two days of sailing in New England.

At the 68th running of the Schell Regatta, the nation's No. 15-ranked squad, still has a chance for the top-10, despite a 15th place showing with 288 points, as 45 points separate six teams from ninth to 15th.

The "A" team captained by sophomore Justin Doane started off strong, winning the second race and finishing second in the third, but could not finish better than ninth over the final nine competitions, finishing with 137 points.

Eight more races remain for both the "A" and "B" teams, giving them 20 over the two-day competition.

Freshman Katherine Lund took over the captaining duties in the eighth race for the "B" team and was able to finish in the top-10 in three of the final four races after just one eighth place finish over the first eight races. The "B" team closed out the day with back-to-back fourth and third place finishes, giving them 151 points, and adding 137 points from the "A" team to finish with 288 points.

No. 2-ranked Rogers Williams College is the overall leader with 132 points, followed by No. 4-ranked Boston College's 178 points in the coed race.

At Harvard's 44th Women's Victorian Coffee Urn  the Cardinal women finished in last place of 16 teams, with the "B" squad captained by sophomore Marget Hayden fairing better than the "A" team captained by junior Hannah Burroughs. No. 2-ranked Boston College is the overall leader, with Yale close behind.

The meets conclude on Sunday. The Cardinal will compete every weekend until Thanksgiving, with the annual Big Sail, prior to the Cal-Stanford Big Game, taking place on November 17 at St. Francis Yacht Club in The City.
