STANFORD, CA - In their first major home events of the year, the Stanford Sailing Team took top honors in this weekend's regattas. The Women's team competed at home both Saturday and Sunday, while three of the Men sailed at Cal for the Men's Singlehanded Pacific Coast Championship.

Bryson Women's Intersectional
The Stanford Women's Team dominated at this year's Bryson Women's Intersectional. The annual event is sailed in Stanford's home waters of Redwood City. Despite a home court advantage, the Cardinal Women have not won this event in the past three years. This year, Stanford's top team took charge from the first race on Saturday, with returning All-American skipper Liz Rountree '06 and crew Julie Pitts '05 taking charge in A-Division. The duo finished 2, 4, 1, 2 in the first four races, and never looked back in the 10-race regatta. Ripping it up in B-Division were skipper Caroline Young '07 with crews Becca Levin'07 and Ali Salatti'05. Levin sailed with Young for 8 of the 10 races, with Salatti filling in on Saturday afternoon when the seabreeze hit a peak of 12 knots. The combos proved effective, with Stanford's B-Division posting 7 races in the top 2.

Also competing for the Cardinal, the Stanford 2 team finished an impressive 5th overall. Sailing in A-Division, frosh skipper Evan Brown and crews Alexa Binns'07 and alternate frosh Marianna Beardsworth earned an impressive 2nd in A-Division, just behind teammates Rountree/Pitts. Sailing in B-Division, Joanna Madsen '07 and frosh Carrie Denning earned 6th.

Pacific Coast Men's Singlehanded Championships
After leading through most of the regatta by as many as 6 points, sophomore Emery Wager fell to second place at this year's Men's Singlehanded Pacific Coast Championships. The regatta was sailed in Laser Full Rigs at Cal's Treasure Island Sailing Center venue. Eighteen men competed in the 15-race event. USC's Mikee Anderson took an early lead, but was overshadowed by Wager as the conditions got windier. Wager was unable to fend off a late charge by Anderson in the last race, putting Wager one point behind.

Wager earns one of two Pacific Coast berths to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Singlehanded National Championships to be held at Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota on October 22-24.

Also competing were Stanford seniors Andy Mesher and Jeff Allen who finished 7th and 8th respectively.

Next weekend, both Stanford Women and Coed Teams head up to Cal to compete in the Stoney Burke Intersectional.
