LONG BEACH, Calif.-- Stanford Sailing is in sixth place of 18 teams at one of two national semifinals, heading into the final day on Sunday with 70 points. The Cardinal, ranked No. 10 nationally, are just 10 points out of third place.

The B Division of Kevin Laube and Kelly Ortel are second in their division, finishing in the top-four in five of six races, scoring just 15 points over the four races, placing second, fourth twice and fifth before a tenth place finish in race five. The duo closed out day one with 28 points following a third place showing.

In the A Division, Mateo Vargas and Rebecca King scored 42 points, sixth in the division.

Harvard leads the competition with 50 points, followed by Georgetown (52), Charleston College (60), Navy (60) and Tufts (63). The top seven teams are separated by 23 points.

The top nine teams in each of the two semifinals, both in Long Beach this weekend, head to nationals May 23 to 29 on the Hood River in Oregon. Stanford already has its women's and team divisions headed North for two of the three championships. Stanford sent all three teams to Nationals last year.
