NEW ENGLAND / LONG BEACH-- In a busy weekend across the nation, Stanford Sailing sent 20 sailors to four regattas, splashing into the Boston Harbor for two races, to Old Dominion for a three-boat team race, and to Southern California for the regional regatta in its first full weekend after finals.
The two most prestigious races are in Boston, where the No. 7-ranked Cardinal are tied for third at the 83rd Annual Boston Dinghy Challenge against 18 teams, and fifth among 18 teams at the Boston University Bridge Invite.
No. 1-ranked Yale leads the Boston Dinghy Challenge with 176 points, while Stanford and No. 13 Wisconsin are tied with 207 points for third place, trailing No. 7-ranked Brown (192) by 15 points over the first 10 races. Oliver Toole and Haley Kirk have sailed to best of 49 points in the C Division paced by nine top-seven finishes, while Kevin Laube and Kelly Ortel are in third place in the A Division with 58 points.
Managing just six races at the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup, Stanford has 88 points paced by its A Division skippered by Jack Ortel and crew of McKenzie Wilson who have 37 points paced by three top-four finishes.
The Cardinal lead the 25-team South 5 regional Regatta with 37 points paced by the B Division skippered by Molly McKinney and sailing with Kaitlyn Baab. The duo won race four, finished second and were in third place twice for nine points.
At the Szambecki Team Race on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Va., in a team race that features eight of the nation's top-15 teams, Stanford went just 1-4 in round 1 as College of Charleston leads the field at 4-1. The lone win was over Georgetown.
After the weekend the whole team heads to Spring Break Practice at St.Mary's College of Maryland for the week.
