STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford fencing put on a show Saturday, topping the leaderboard in five of the six events at the NCAA Western Regionals as the host Cardinal made a compelling case for nine fencers to advance to the NCAA Championships.
Air Force, UC San Diego and Cal Tech joined the Cardinal in an all-day competition on The Farm. Turner Caldwell (men's foil), Cameron Lindsay (men's sabre), Rebecca Chung (women's epee), Lily McElwee (women's foil) and Julia Klepner (women's sabre) finished first in their events. Jeremy Klepner (men's sabre), Kian Ameli (men's epee) and Ashley Titan (women's epee) finished second.
Cole Connelly, who finished third in men's epee, was the ninth Cardinal fencer recommended for qualification to the NCAA Championships. Recommendations will be submitted to the NCAA national committee with a formal announcement expected Tuesday.
